To simplify construction procedure with-out sacrificing strength, dowel  assembly is avoided in favor of screws and glue. Nails should never be  used in the main assembly to hold basic sections of the furniture together.
Only screws, which pull and hold the pieces together in a firm tight grip,  should be used here. Nails can be used for fastening light drawers, attaching edge trim and other decorative features that have no bearing on strength.
To make a strong permanent joint, spread a thin layer of glue on both sections  to be joined, set them together, and immedi-ately tighten with screws. The  best method of working with screws is to pre-drill screw holes in the top piece;   the diameter of the hole is equal to the diameter of the screw being used.
Countersink these holes (if the screws are located at the back or underside  of the piece where they will not be visible). Then, after setting the two pieces  together, drop screws into all the screw holes, hammer them part way into  the undrilled wood beneath (unless it is hardwood), and tighten in the usual  manner.

In the case of a long row or ring of screws, don’t tighten them in consecutive  order, but skip around, tightening first one at one end, then one at the opposite  end, then back to one midway between, and so on until all are tightened. This will  insure the pieces being evenly brought to-gether and keep them from getting out  of line while assembling.

Wholeness In The New Year

March 19, 2016 at 9:30 amCategory:Uncategorized

At the beginning of the year, it is commonplace to think about change, and to set new intentions. At this time, many people set New Year’s Resolutions. Normally this may consist of setting goals you want to achieve, your “To Do List.” Often as you move through the year, these New Year’s Resolutions seem to lose their sustaining power. You either feel a great deal of resistance in pursuing them or your goals get lost to the distractions and busyness of life. Did you ever think that the block to achieving these resolutions comes from the mindset that created them in the first place. The mindset tells you that you don’t have what you really want, that you are somehow flawed where you are right now. This mindset comes from a sense of lack or not enough. It takes a great deal of striving, effort, willpower and the overcoming of resistance to get anywhere. It simply doesn’t feel good to do it.

Why do people continue to set themselves up again and again for these disappointments and defeats. Statistics show that only 8% of Americans actually succeed in achieving New Year’s resolutions.

What if there was another way to look at the New Year. What if you came from a place of abundance and wholeness. What if you knew that there was nothing lacking inside of you when you set your intentions for the New Year. Then the motivation to change would look different. It would come from the perspective that you have everything you need inside you. Instead of feeling that you need to get something outside yourself to feel good, you already feel good. Then life would look more like a playground of possibility. You would be called by questions such as, What do I want to enjoy?, What do I want to experience?, What am I curious about?, What are the skills I want to develop to enjoy the life I was given? What are the relationships that honor or compliment me?, What is the work situation that speaks to my abilities and my potential? What am I here to contribute?

From this place of wholeness, you see that your control, willpower, major effort and striving are irrelevant. What is highlighted instead is a sense of surrender to a higher calling. It is a sense that if you trusted the knowing of your true self, your authentic self, you will be led exactly to the situations that will contribute to your greatest growth, joy, wisdom and potential. You will still take steps and action. Those steps will be characterized by non attachment to outcome, a feeling of lightness and enjoyment. Your life will also be lived in the present moment. You would not be driven by a dissatisfaction that would judge or make you feel bad for not having what you want right now.

Ultimately, as you look at your New Year, there are two paths you can choose. One is the Path of Striving. The other is the Path of Surrender. Which one will you choose?

Intrinsic Motivators

March 19, 2016 at 9:29 amCategory:Uncategorized

This is going to be a good year for a lot of people for a variety of reasons. This is the year to take the leap, push for that next step and live fulfilled. In life we are often motivated by intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Extrinsic factors are those that are more tangible, like money, stocks, health benefits and time off.

Intrinsic motivators are more feeling based. For example, that feeling you get when you know you really helped someone, just being excited to go to work, or feeling appreciated. In 2015 your challenge is to focus on the intrinsic motivators. Do things that make you feel excited, fulfilled and appreciated. Many people who chase the extrinsic motivators are happy on the forefront, but if you want sustained happiness and peace, first chase the intrinsic motivators and extrinsic rewards will follow without force.

When you cycle in life, you cycle the same things each day, might as well be passionate and excited to wake up each day as opposed to living for the dollar. This is not to say you should forget your responsibilities, but if you have to work, might as well work for what sparks enjoyment and happiness.

When you go to bed at night to rest from a day of work, but you are resting from work that was fulfilling, you get a different kind of rest compared to those who are trying to fall asleep and stay asleep as a method to avoid their day. Work you love and work you hate both take work, so make the leap into working for something that you believe in, something that motivates you and something that gives you intrinsic rewards.

In 2015 when you take the leap toward your goals, go all the way. Do not short cut the leap, do not find “alternate ways” to get to the end. Go all the way. Do it the right way. The right way is usually tougher. It involves more sacrifice, more money, more time, more energy, more of a mental fight initially, but if you don’t short cut your goal, you will end up with the entire goal achieved.

Taking a leap will require more confidence than you presently have and that requires hurdling fear. If you want to hurdle fear don’t think about it. The more time that passes you by the more your fears exacerbate. This is because you begin to ruminate and analyze your fears. You spend time on your fears and not your goals.

Problems will be present for your entire life, but they are not your entire life. Read that again. Problems will be present for your entire life, but they are not your entire life. Don’t dwell on problems as you take your leap, see problems as opportunities and be solution focused. You will hurdle your fears and pains much faster in 2015 if you don’t stop to dwell but you keep running toward solutions.

Goal attainment will build confidence and confidence provides more awareness into the opportunities around you. More opportunity and more confidence leads to more success more success brings extrinsic rewards.

In 2015 focus on intrinsic motivators.
